A STEP FORWARD AT THE FUTURE OF THE SHOE INDUSTRY
With the latest advances in biological engineering to culture leather it will be unneccesary the raising, slaughtering and transporting animals. By applying the latest advances in applied biotechnology to develop the novel biomaterials we also address some of our most pressing global challenges. The objective is to develop cultured leather which require less time of manufacturing, without land or chemicals, and much lower water and energy inputs. At high scale, cultured leather can provide a safe, sustainable and economical alternative to the traditional tanning industry.
From a technical perspective, our approach integrates innovations in cell culture and biofabrication at bioreactors to get a leather with the best properties of durability, elasticity and breathbility. Given our expertise in biotechnology, we have established collaborative actions with spanish biotech companies as BacMine, research labs at Science Institutes as well as shoe designers to incorporate these biomaterials in future designs.
As recognition of this innovative approach we have recently been granted funding under the European SME Instrument programme. This European seal of excellence consolidates our project as a highly innovative company at international level.
